Archive for the ‘Housekeeping’ Category

Currently, there are thousands of photographs contained in the gallery area of the website, so to showcase some specific works, there’s now a new feature available in the menu entitled Portfolio.

In the Portfolio section, there are currently 4 separate galleries being showcased:

Hopefully, this will provide a great introduction into the rest of work contained throughout the website!

 (Purple Pig Photography)

If you’re a frequent visitor to Purple Pig Photography, you might have noticed the new look and feel of the website since about 2 weeks ago. I know I said I was going to make an announcement regarding the new launch of the site, so consider this the announcement!

I can’t even tell you how many incarnations this photography site has gone through since 1994 (when the WWW was actually created). There’s been many, and I’m sure this will be the best one yet. You have to keep up with evolving technology, so they say at least.

Here’s a breakdown of some the awesomeness that is the new Purple Pig Photography:

Main Page

The main page of the site is now more informative than in the past. It has more of a dashbaord feel so you can see the most recent 365 Photo A Day photographs, some handy Social Media buttons to interact with Purple Pig Photography on Facebook and Twitter, and the most recent entries written on the blog.

Blog

The blog area of the site, where I will write about current projects, tips, tricks, reviews, rants, raves, trends, and whatever else you’d like to read about.

Galleries

The meat of the website – because really, what would a photography site be without some nifty photographs to see?

Search

You can use the search page to locate photographs based on many different criteria, such as date and keywords. I am still working on getting some of the older photos updated with their relevant information, so some of them may not currently appear when you do a specific keyword search. Don’t worry though, I am doing my best to update the archive of images!

Lightboxes

A Lightbox is where you can “save” your favorite photographs for future viewing and sharing.

Speaking of sharing, photos and searches are RSS and social media sharing friendly. You can quickly and easily share pretty much anything with your followers on Twitter, friends on Facebook, and friends on other sites, too! It’s a great way for you to help spread the word and your love of Purple Pig Photography!

There’s still some other features in the works, so please keep your eyes peeled for all the new and exciting stuff on the way! Soon, things like additional galleries, pricing and ordering of photographs and products will be available! If you want to schedule a booking, you can still do that by email, the contact page, or by telephone.

As always, please leave a comment with your thoughts and ideas.

This entry brought to you with the assistance of music by Blindside, Emery & LaFee.

Call it being impatient, but I’ve decided to push the site live a little early via a soft grand re-opening. I’m still not done with skinning the blog, as it’s a little bit of a learning curve, but I wanted to have the content out there for people to see regardless.

So if you see things on the blog looking a little funny, don’t worry, you do not need glasses… it’s just the blog being tweaked a little bit.

If you’ve followed Purple Pig Photography in the past, you might have remembered that at one point there was a Blog. There was also more frequent updating, a different website, and some other features available. Over time though, the constant updating became harder and harder to maintain, especially as I strove to deliver relevant and compelling content.

Perhaps the biggest obstacle to overcome was that I did not have the desire to spend even more time than I already was on the computer. My photography work flow, once confined to a dimly-lit red room, has been more and more dependent on a computer and multiple monitors. I’m sure that many of my fellow photographers would agree when I say that I would rather be shooting and creating photographs than sitting on my butt moving around a mouse for hours on end.

One thing I have noticed recently, as the volume of work has picked up, is that technology doesn’t really care if I am sitting on my butt or out shooting. The world has gotten smaller, and moves at speeds envied by the crew of the USS Enterprise (star ship, not Navy vessel). With that in mind, I have come to the conclusion that I would much rather be getting a headache while zipping along rather than being left in the dust while stationary.

Have you made it this far? I’m impressed. Seriously!

As the title of this inaugural Blog entry states, it’s time for a New Beginning, not only with this spiffy new Blog (erm, is Blog supposed to capitalized?), but a new website, and new technology under the hood, too. I won’t bore you with the details on that now. There’s a place for that later.

I do hope that this new beginning is not only beneficial to me, but to you, the reader, as well. Hopefully you will keep me in check, prod me to write, inspire me to shoot differently, and join me for a cold beer.

You get a two-fer: A new Twins Stadium and a new look for Purple Pig Photography. Don’t let that excitement overwhelm you!

I do like to note what music I listen to when writing, so until I figure out a better way to do this, this entry has been brought to you by Katy Perry and Emery. I do not expect there to be a joint tour anytime soon (and I’m okay with that).

One last thing worth mentioning: This is the first time using WordPress. I know, right? Go easy on me, please.
